Oregon State finished their sweep of Grand Canyon University with a hard fought 4-2 win Sunday afternoon. The win is the Beavers seventh straight, moving to 7-1 before they return to Corvallis to finally play some games in Goss Stadium.

In the top of the second, Kyler McMahan extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single, and was then scored by a Wade Meckler double. The Antelopes tied things up in the bottom of the third, when a Brock Burton grounder scored Channy Ortiz.

Grand Canyon took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to a Juan Colato single. The Antelopes lead would hold until the top of the eighth, when an Andy Armstrong solo home run tied things back up.

Following Armstrong’s belt, Wade Meckler reached base with a single. He advanced to second on a ground out, and then was brought home by a Jacob Melton double. That gave the Beavers a 3-2 lead headed into the final frame.

Troy Claunch gave the Beavers one more run with a solo homer in the top of the ninth, and then Mulholland came on to get the save with three quick outs. The save is Jake’s second of the year.

Bryant Salgado was credited with the win for the Beavers, coming in to pitch in the seventh inning. He threw for 2 innings and allowed 2 hits and no runs, with one strikeout. Will Frisch was the starter, pitching 4.0 innings during which he allowed 3 hits, 1 earned with 3 strikeouts and 3 batters walked.

Next weekend the Beavers will be back in Corvallis for their first home games of the season. They’ll be hosting the 3-5 BYU Cougars, who are coming off a big upset win over a nationally ranked Texas team. Games are scheduled for 5:35 PM Thursday, 5:35 PM Friday and 1:05 PM Saturday, all times Pacific.
