Oregon State Football: Most Valuable Player Countdown - #19 Shemar Smith

The tackling machine is back for another year.

The college football season is quickly approaching! We continue BTD’s countdown list with number 19.

#19: Shemar Smith - Inside Linebacker

Shemar Smith is a returning starting inside linebacker for the Beavers. He’s entering his senior season after being one of the defenses most consistent performers last season. He played in every game in 2018 (10 starts) and tallied 85 tackles (1 sack & 1 interception). While the linebackers have consistently been a top performing position group in preseason camp, Shemar Smith seems to have locked down a starting spot.

Much has been written about the depth of the linebackers; specifically the inside linebackers with Smith, Avery Roberts, Isaiah Tufaga and Doug Taumoelau all competing for a chance to see the field on Saturday’s. Shemar Smith has consistently proven himself and seems to be the top inside linebacker at this point in camp. Interestingly enough, newcomer Avery Roberts has most consistently been running with the first-team as the other inside linebacker. Together the duo could put fear into opposing ball-carriers and really anchor the middle of Oregon State’s defense. Look for Shemar Smith to put up a monster senior season and potentially lead the team tackles.

Projected Statistics:

90 tackles, 8 TFLs , 2 Sacks, 2 INTs
