The Beavers got up early Thursday morning to host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds for this year’s Beavers Beyond the Classroom game. Hundreds of kids from around the state packed Gill Coliseum to see an old fashioned beatdown, with Oregon State taking down SUU by 50 points, 95-45. The Beavers improve to 5-0.
Six Beavers got into double digit scoring, with Taylor Jones leading the way with 18 points. Two Beavers reached 14 points, with Kat Tudor getting 14 for her second game in a row. She hit four three pointers tonight, and the Beavers getting back one of their best ranged threats is a set up for an amazing season.
Destiny Slocum also finished with 14 points tonight, and Aleah Goodman finished with 12. Goodman was a perfect 4 for 4 from behind the arc. She got scoring started for Oregon State, hitting a three on the Beavers first possession, and starting a 13-0 run that opened the game. By the end of the first half the Beavers would grow that lead to 25.
That level of dominance was fueled in part by the Beavers absolutely controlling the rebounding game. They out rebounded SUU by a 56-27 margin. 18 of those came from Mikayla Pivec, who also added 10 points and 7 assists.
Noelle Mannen rounded out the Beavers double digit scorers, with 10 points. This is the first time the Redshirt Freshman has done so, and the Beavers getting another amazing young player is exciting for the future.
Not so exciting is Kennedy Brown getting injured. Brown took what appeared to be an elbow to her eye, ending up with a black eye that left her on the bench for much of the game. After the game, Head Coach Scott Rueck confirmed that Taya Corosdale would miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, so health concerns are starting to mount. Hopefully Brown is not gone for too long.
The Beavers will next travel to Miami for a Thanksgiving Tournament. They’ll take on the Hurricanes on Friday, November 29th, and Liberty on Saturday, November 30th.
