Week 2 of the NFL season is in the books, and a few Beavers managed to stand out. Here’s a quick look at how they did.
- Johnny Hekker: Los Angeles Rams - Punter
Hekker was once again called upon to punt only two times in the Rams blowout win over the Cardinals, and averaged 51 yards a punt. The real story came when Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein went down with a groin injury. Hekker was called on to fill in on kicking duties, and nailed his first ever NFL field goal attempt, from 20 yards, and his first ever NFL extra point.
- Brandin Cooks: Los Angeles Rams - Wide Receiver
Cooks had another huge game, with 7 receptions for 159 yards, including an absolutely beautiful 57 yard bomb from Jared Goff (check it out at 0:54 in the video above). Cooks has yet to find the end zone as a Ram, but with the way the Los Angeles offense is humming, it’s only a matter of time.
- Jacquizz Rodgers: Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Running Back
Rodgers saw more action this week, with 5 carries for 13 yards on the ground, and 3 receptions for 23 yards. He may be finding his role on a Buccaneers offense that has been on fire the first two weeks of the season.
- Steven Nelson: Kansas City Chiefs - Cornerback
Nelson was somewhat limited in Sunday’s win over the Steelers, he left before the half with what’s been reported as a lower body injury, but returned after the break. He finished the game with 3 tackles and 1 stuff. The Chiefs’ secondary has not looked especially strong, being lit up for two weeks in a row.
- Jordan Poyer: Buffalo Bills - Safety
Poyer was the Bills leading tackler in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, with 7 combined. He also had one stuff and forced a fumble, though the Chargers recovered it. He’s been one of the few standouts on a Bills team that has looked completely lost so far this season.
- Andy Levitre: Atlanta Falcons - Guard
Levitre went down with an elbow injury early in the Falcons win over the Panthers. Backup Wes Schweitzer looked pretty good, and if Levitre is out for awhile, may be able to play himself into a starting position.
That’s all for this week. Next week, Johnny Hekker, Brandin Cooks, and the Rams take on the Chargers, and Steven Nelson’s Chiefs host the 49ers.
