Well if softball only required 2 outs in the 7th inning this recap would have been more fun to write. Sadly that’s not the rules.
Oregon State got of to a hot start, building a 3-0 lead on the bats of McKenna Arriola and Alysha Everett. The first inning saw Everett drive home Arriola on a single up the middle, while the 3rd inning saw them team up again with a 2 run home run from Everett that gave the Beavs a 3-0 lead. Meehra Nelson got the start for the Beavs, pitching well through the first 4 innings, before being jinxed by the announcer “She has not walked anyone yet” and immediately yielding a walk. Wisconsin capitalized immediately with a 2 run homer of their own that brought the score to 3-2. A scoreless 6th lead to a tense 7th inning, with OSU one out away from picking up the win... unfortunately it was not meant to be. The Beavs walked the bases loaded before yielding an RBI single to tie the game, and a scoreless bottom of 7 from the Beavs sent it to extra innings.
Then we went to a chapter I shall call Oregon State and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Inning. Wisconsin ended up scoring 6 runs in the top of the frame, the Beavs got none and a game that was so so very close to an OSU victory ended up a blowout defeat.
Oregon State can still fight their way back in the regional as they play either Alabama or Middle Tennessee State tomorrow in an elimination game. First pitch is at 2pm PST
