Kat Tudor sunk a free-throw with 2:28 left to complete a four point play and put the game out of reach for the Duke Blue Devils en route to a 71-57 win for the Oregon State Beavers. Tudor got the Beavers going in the first quarter by scoring eight of the Beavers first 15 points after they fell into a 9-0 hole by missing on their first ten shots.
The Beavers were led by Destiny Slocum’s 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including 5 shots from downtown. The Blue Devils were led by the dynamic duo of Haley Gorecki and Leaonna Odom who scored 18 and 17 points respectively.

Notes and Observations
Beavers start slow again
Oregon State had their third rough first quarter in a row when they stumbled out the gate to miss their first ten shots. You have to wonder what is going through Coach Scott Rueck’s head to address this. Perhaps another change up to the starting lineup?
Oregon State’s point guard duo of Slocum and Goodman are hot from downtown
We all know how good from Tudor is from behind three-point line with her high-arcing shots that feel like they could touch the large video board hanging from mid-court. But, holy cow, Slocum and Aleah Goodman seem to have a range that extends 5 feet behind the line. If you haven’t had a chance to watch them take these shots, you need to make it to a game or catch one on TV.
Refs let the players play
Just 16 fouls in this game which was a nice switch-up from the heavy whistling we’ve been hearing at Gill in other home games (see the 38 and 35 tallied in games versus Saint Mary’s and La Salle, woof). Seemed like the teams got to be physical without the fear of ticky-tack fouls that we’ve been accustomed to be hearing recently.
Aquino seen wearing a boot on her right foot
Last month in an interview with the Gazette Times, Coach Rueck declared that Andrea Aquino would redshirt this season to further develop her game. If you attend games, you could routinely see Aquino out on the floor participating in warm ups with the team, but this was the first time I saw anything hinting toward injury. Hopefully it is just a bad sprain sustained in practice and nothing serious because Beaver Nation is excited to see what she can do for this team down the road!
Next up, the Beavers host the Cal State Bakersfield Road Runners for the last non-conference game before PAC-12 play begins. The game starts at 1 PM on Saturday, December 29th. Come back to Building the Dam for more previews and recaps!
