We asked and you have spoken, Beaver Nation! In our first edition of our “Sunday Poll”, we asked you who you thought would be Oregon State’s starting quarterback this season and over 250 votes later, you selected rising junior gunslinger Jake Luton.

Luton was a JUCO All-American last season at Ventura College (CA), where he threw for 3,551 yards and 40 touchdowns. Gaudy stats aside, Luton is the “new guy” to the program, who is still learning the Oregon State offense but enrolling early may have helped his cause. The 6’ 7” gunslinger looks to be the most complete talent in the quarterback mix so far, but he’s yet to prove any of it against Division I, Pac-12 level talent.

With two years of eligibility left, Luton may also be viewed as a favorable choice for head coach Gary Andersen and his staff, who are looking to strike while the iron is hot over the next few seasons. While, Andersen has previously stated that he expects to use more than one quarterback during the 2017 season, having one reliable gunslinger for two straight seasons could be critical for the growth of the program.

We thank everyone who took the time to vote and be sure to check back next week for another edition of our “Sunday Poll”!
