The Beavers defeated the Sun Devils in Phoenix Thursday night by a score of 2-0. A big reason was starting pitcher Luke Heimlich’s incredible 8 inning, 2 hit, 8 strikeout performance.
This marked the third straight start of Heimlich’s where he went for 8 straight innings along with his fourth straight win. Heimlich’s ERA on the year is now 0.25 and OSU’s starters cumulative ERA is now 1.32 in 102 and one third innings pitched.
Oregon State scored both of its runs in the top of the first, with designated hitter Trevor Larnach coming in with an RBI-double, followed by an RBI-single from Andy Atwood.
Max Engelbrekdt came on in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the year.
What made this win just a little bit sweeter Oregon State was earning a victory in front of alums Joey Wong, fresh off a decent run with China in the World Baseball Classic, and Andrew Moore, who’s making waves within the Mariners’ organization.
Have we said lately how great it is to see our alums at the field? @JoeyKawikaWong @AndrewG_23 #gobeavs pic.twitter.com/ESlNrC4GTW
