Calvin Tyler Jr. is a speedy running back from Texas. He committed to Oregon State Tuesday afternoon via Twitter. Tyler chose the Beavers over Illinois, after narrowing the field from a number of Division I offers.

On Monday night, Calvin Tyler Jr. was set to make his college commitment announcement on Wednesday, but he couldn’t wait and changed his mind, deciding rather to make his official announcement this afternoon.
Calvin Tyler Jr. can provide the Beavers offense with a different element. At 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, Tyler has a very different body type than starting tailback Ryan Nall (6-foot-2, 235-pounds). Despite Tyler’s smaller stature he is still a threat to take it to the house every time he touches the football. In fact, he has ran for 50 touchdowns of 50+ yards during his high school career and totaled 2,861 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior (stats courtesy of OregonLive).
Calvin Tyler Jr is a great addition for Oregon State and comes at a position of need. The Beavers are in need of running back depth behind Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce. Also, with top-recruits Jamire Calvin (WR) and now TJ Green (RB) wavering on their commitments, Calvin Tyler Jr’s decision is welcome news for the Beavers.
