Oregon St. has updated their men's basketball roster, and with the completion of spring term and high school graduations, there were no new nasty surprises, always something to be on guard for when grades and eligibility actually become official.
After both an extensive overhaul in the first year of the Wayne Tinkle era, the Beavers will be a suddenly experienced, and much deeper squad this coming season, led by senior guards Gary Payton II and Langston Morris-Walker, and junior guard Malcolm Duvivier.
But Olaf Schaftenaar, Jarmal Reid, and Daniel Gomis, having persevered through a variety of on and off the court experiences, are seniors now as well, and Cheikh N'Diaye is a junior.
Complimenting the cast is the best recruiting class in recent Oregon St. history, headed by 6'8" Tres Tinkle and 6'3" Stephen Thompson Jr., both sons of coaches.
The update of the roster also shows that 6'10 Drew Eubanks, the only in-state scholarship player, 6'3" Derrick Bruce, and 6'11" Gligorije Rakocevic all are on campus for the summer as well.
Tinkle made news with his squad of 5 walk-ons last season to fill out the roster that was woefully thin after player departures following the end of the Craig Robinson era, and though there were no guarantees, it turns out 2 of them will be back again.
Tanner Sanders will be busy, moving from his football redshirt season and into an entirely new system as the Gary Andersen era begins, but both Justin Stangel, who earned a scholarship, and Matt Dahlen will be back. Stangel and Dahlen were the walkons who played the most in addition to Sanders.
That still left the roster at 14 players, and without the potential addition of another of the walk-ons, but there was a reason for that, and last night, we learned what that was.
With the late season dismissal/departure of Victor Robbins, that left not only a roster spot, but a scholarship, and Tinkle made a late addition to the 2015 class . Tinkle invited 6'4" guard Kendal Manuel from Billings, Montana's Skyview high for a visit, and after taking a look around yesterday, Manuel decided to join the Beavers.
I'd like to announce that I'm officially committing to Oregon State to be a Beaver in the 2015 class!! ◾️ #GoBeavs #DamStraight
