Oregon State started it three game series with the 10th ranked Trojans tonight. They opened the game with high hopes, but failed to find any efficient offense. While the Trojan's batters drove in run after run. Finishing with 11 runs, off of 13 hits. The loss drops the Beavers to 25-13 overall, 8-8 in Pac 12 play and 16-4 at home. The 10th ranked Trojans improved to 30-10 on the season, third in the Pac-12 at 11-5.
Oregon State was first on board with a Caleb Hamilton homerun to left field. The home run gave the Beavers the early lead in the bottom of the 3rd 0-1, it was Hamilton second home run of the season. The Beavers started Pac-12 pitcher of the week Andrew Moore.
Moore held the Trojans scoreless for the first three innings before USC batters would hit their stride. The Trojans got their scoring started with a two run inning in the top of the 4th. USC's Timmy Robinson singled up the middle to score Jeremy Martinez. Blake Lacey single to left field was next as he scored Timmy Robinson giving them the one run lead 2-1.
Andrew Moore continued to struggle in the top of the 5th. As Angel La Bruna homer to score himself. Timmy Robinson drove in another run with a double down the left field line scoring Bobby Stahel to extend their lead to 4-1. Andrew Moore was replaced by John Pomeray in the top of the 7th inning.
Pomeray wouldn't last long as he gave up two runs, which again saw Timmy Robinson drive in another run off a double giving him 3 RBIs on the night. Pomeray gave up another run off of a wild pitch. After hitting a Trojans batter he was replaced by Kevin Flemer.
The Beavers woes continued as Angelo La Bruna double to left field which saw three Trojans runners score. Completely blowing the game wide open. Giving them a nine run leading 10-1 in a six run inning. The Trojans Angelo La Bruna finished with 4 RBI's in the game. As the Beavers couldn't seem to find a pitcher that could hold the Trojans scoreless. They borrowed Scott Church who came from left field to take over for Flemer.
Oregon state got a small victory as they held the Trojans to a one run inning in the top of the 8th. The game was well out of reach as the Trojans extended their lead to ten 11-1. Oregon State went on a mini run, showings sign of offense. With Billy King coming in to pinch hit for the Beavers. King doubled down the 3rd base line to score Trever Morrison and Tyler Mildenberg. Cutting the Trojans lead to eight 11-3, but still not enough to make a difference.
As the bottom of the 9th begun, there was little hope for the Beavers fans that stuck around. The Beavers gave the fans a little hope on back to back singles and loaded the bases. In the end they couldn't capitalize, with the Trojans taking the series opener 11-3.
Although the Beavers cut the lead to eight, it was still one of their worst losses at home since 2011. In 2011 the Beavers fell 18-0 in their home opener against Arizona. That same series saw the Beavers regroup and win the series. So Beaver fans need not worry.
The series resumes at 1:35 pm on saturday, as the Beavers need to find ways to win if they hope to get in the playoffs with 17 games left.
