Game Notes / Arizona St. Game Notes / Rosters
Oregon St. opens a weekend series against the desert teams with their first Pac-12 home contest of the season against Arizona St.
Both teams come in 0-1 in conference after losing road games to their in-state rivals on opening weekend by double digit margins, the Beavers by a 71-59 score to the Ducks Saturday in the Civil War, and the Sun Devils 73-49 to the 8th ranked Wildcats Sunday.
Oregon St. got off to a slow start, falling behind 16-4, but caught up by halftime. The Beavers were never able to take the lead against Oregon though. Langston Morris-Walker led the Beavers with 16 points, and Gary Payton II had 12, but Oregon's Joseph Young dominated the game, with 27 points, and the Ducks flew away with the win.
Arizona St. struggled mightily from the field in the first Territorial Cup contest of the year, with no one in double digits scoring. Sun Devils leading scorer Savon Goodman, who averages 13 points per game, was held to just a pair of free throws made.
Both games went to overtime last year, with the home team ultimately pulling out the win each time, but massive roster turnover on both teams makes that of little relevance to tonight.
Oregon St. is unbeaten at home so far this season, and hoping Beaver Nation can make the difference in extending that streak to 9 games. It will be the first time since finals week in early December that the students will be on campus in any number, and filling up the Beaver Dam. At the same time, Arizona St. is winless away from Wells Fargo Arena this season.
The other issue for Oregon St. will be matching up, depth wise, and staying on the floor, foul wise, against an Arizona St. team that routinely goes 10-11 players deep, and have had 7 different players lead them in scoring already in just 14 games.
The Beavers are a 1 1/2 point favorite, mostly due to the home court factor, in a game that projects to be very close.
