Oregon St. wide receiver Markus Wheaton was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the NFL draft this evening. Wheaton was the 17th pick in the round, and 79th pick overall.

Wheaton was the 4th wide receiver taken in 6 picks, immediately following Marquise Goodwin of Texas, who went to Buffalo, and 3 picks behind California's Keenan Allen, who was selected by San Diego. Wheaton and Allen join USC's Robert Woods, who went in the 9th pick of the second round to Buffalo, as Pac-12 wide receivers taken in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

Behind The Steel Curtain likes the pick, and compares Wheaton favorably to former Steeler Mike Wallace.

With Wallace's departure for Miami, there is ample opportunity for Wheaton to become a key contributor right away for a perennial playoff contender.

Congratulations, Markus, and good luck!
