Will we see yet another pitching masterpiece?

Ben Wetzler will be looking for his first win of the season, and wouldn't mind being the next pitcher in the series with a performance for the ages either.

Oregon St. and Arizona St. meet to settle their series, after both teams have claimed a win with a pitching performance of a generation.

The Beavers' Matt Boyd turned in a 1 hit, 3 walk, 11 strikeout complete game in Oregon St.'s Friday night 5-0 win that was the first time Arizona St. had been 1 hit since 1983.

The Sun Devils' Ryan Kellogg responded with what would have been a perfect game but for a couple of inconsequential errors in Saturday afternoon's 4-0 Arizona St. win. And though he only struck out 3 Beaver batters, the no hit, no walk, no hit by pitch performance by Kellogg was the first time anyone has no-hit Oregon St. since 1994, when Lewis & Clark St. did it.

Oregon St. will send junior LHP send Ben Wetzler (0-0, 2.38) to the mound first, and Arizona St. will counter with 6'9", 235 lb. sophomore LHP Adam McCreery (1-2, 6.86).

Based on those numbers, it would seem unlikely that we will see another contender for pitching performance of the week nationally, never mind in the conference, today, but after 2 of them, how much can baseball fans ask for?

But on the other hand, even given the caliber of pitchers involved, no one could have predicted what has transpired so far this weekend at Goss. Time for some more baseball!

With UCLA's win over California, and Oregon downing Arizona, the Beavers find themselves in a 4 way tie atop the Pac-12 with the Bears, Bruins, and Ducks. The Beavers could end the day atop the conference, or in a tie for 3rd., making the stakes huge.

Interestingly, Oregon St. head coach Pat Casey has shaken up the batting order yet again, as he continues to work around being without Tyler Smith, who continues to rest his bruised hand, elevating Ryan Barnes to the first spot, and using Peterson in Smith's spot in the batting order, as well as on defense.

Today's lineup:

Ryan Barnes-DH

Andy Peterson-SS

Michael Conforto-LF

Dylan Davis-RF

Danny Hayes-1B

Jared Casper-3B

Jake Rodriguez-C

Kavin Keyes-2B

Joey Matthews-CF
