Oregon St. if off to their best start since 2007, and the Beavers are looking to match that year's 7-0 start today, in the 3rd of 4 games at San Diego St. Oregon St. has done so 11 times, but only twice in the "modern" era, under coach Pat Casey.

The Beavers got to 6-0 with a 2 run 8th inning last night, which produced a 2-0 win, thanks in large part to a tremendous 8 1/3 inning, 117 pitch effort by Matt Boyd. The runs came as a product of timely 2 out hitting by Danny Hayes and Dylan Davis. Hayes drove in Max Gordon, who had led off the inning and advanced twice on infield grounders, with a single to left. Hayes worked his way to third by capitalizing on a throwing error and a failed pickoff attempt, putting him in position to give Boyd and Scott Schultz, who finished the game and got his second save this season backing up Boyd, an insurance run when David doubled down the left field line.

After 2 night games, the Beavers today get to play under blue skies, and in temperatures in the high 60s, climbing toward the 70s.

Today, Oregon St. sends freshman RHP Andrew Moore (1-0, 1.69) to the mound, hoping he can reprise his dominant debut last Sunday in beating Cal-Riverside.

San Diego St. will counter with senior RHP Ryan Doran (1-0, 3.00). Doran went 6 innings in the Aztecs' 5-3 win over cross town rival San Diego last Sunday, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs, both earned. Doran struck out 4, against 2 walks. Doran, a JC transfer, began last year in the San Diego St. bullpen, but quickly transitioned to being a starter, and led the Aztecs in innings pitch last season.

The game will be shifted to KTHH 990 in the mid-valley, as Thursday night's game was, due to the conflict with basketball this afternoon.
