Beavers Bring Back A Big Back From Bowl Trip

We discusses previously how the Alamo Bowl trip was important beyond just the outcome of the game, and Oregon St. has in fact already seen a recruiting payoff, as Lawrence Mattison was sufficiently impressed with what he saw to commit to become a Beaver next season.

Mattison is a big back, standing 6'1", but weighing 225 lbs., potentially giving Oregon St. more muscle inside. Mattison has speed as well, though, with 4.4 40 time.

Mattison, who stood out at last summer's TCU camp, is from Smithson Valley High in Spring Branch, Texas, which is just 40 miles up highway 281 (that's the freeway Beaver fans took from the airport into downtown) from San Antonio.

Mattson was a Texas Class 5A honorable mention all-state selection last fall, and plans to visit Corvallis later this month.

Here's a look at his junior season highlight video:

Here's a highlight from last fall:

Mattison is rated a 3 star prospect by both Rivals.com and Scout.com, and opted for Oregon St. over nearby Houston, Pac-12 rival Colorado, and up and coming Texas-San Antonio, who had the home-town angle.

Mattison becomes the 19th commit for the 2013 season, and is the second running back to join the program, along with Damien Haskins, another Texas recruit.
