Oregon St. Bolsters Defense With JC Transfers

Oregon St. has bolstered their defense for next year with the recent commitment of a couple of junior college transfers.

With both DTs, Castro Masaniai and Andrew Seumalo, graduating after the Alamo Bowl, the middle of the defensive line is going to be a priority for reloading, and the Beavers have picked up Kyle Peko from Norwalk, CA.

Peko is a 6'2", 295 lb. DT who has played the last 2 seasons at Cerritos JC, and will have 3 years to use 2 seasons of eligibility for the Beavers. Peko had offers from 11 other BCS-AQ conference schools, including Arizona St., USC, Utah, and Washington St. of the Pac-12, plus both Boise St. and BYU, among others, and was leaning toward Michigan St. until he visited the Corvallis campus last weekend.

Here's his highlight video:

Peko is the second JC DT the Beavers have signed, along with 6'1", 310 lb. Siale Hautau, who played at Snow College in Utah, and comited back in mid-November. Both are 3 star prospects according to both Scout.com and Rivals.com

With consensus All-American CB Jordan Poyer also graduating, picking up a corner could help as well. Steven Nelson, a 6'0" 185 lb. corner from Visalia, CA, who was at College of the Sequoias, committed a week ago, but today filed his paperwork for winter term at Oregon St.

Nelson had offers from 8 other programs, 7 of them BCS- AQ schools, including USC and Washington St.

Nelson is also a 3-star prospect on both the Scout.com and Rivals.com lists.
