Oregon St. cornerback Jordan Poyer was named to the All-Pac 12 Second Team for 2011, as voted on by the 12 conference head coaches, the league office announced today. Poyer was the only Oregon St. player named to the first or second teams.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was named the Offensive Player of the Year, and California linebacker Mychal Kendricks was the Defensive Player of the Year. The Cardinal's first year head coach David Shaw was named Coach of the Year, after guiding Stanford to an 11-1 record.
USC wide receiver Marqise Lee and Oregon running back De'Anthony Thomas were named Freshmen Offensive co-Players of the Year, while USC LB Dion Baily was chosen the Freshman Defensive Player of the Year.
Only one player was a unanimous choice, USC wide receiver Robert Woods. The Trojans led the first team selections, with 7 players, followed by 6 from Stanford, and 5 from Oregon.
California punter Bryan Anger was named to the first team for the third time, while Luck, Oregon running back LaMichael James, and Stanford offensive linemen David DeCastro and Jonathan Martin, all four juniors, were named to the first team for the second time.
Five Beavers received honorable mention, Safety Lance Mitchell, Center Grant Johnson, Punter Johnny Hekker, Defensive End Scott Crichton, and Wide Receiver Markus Wheaton.
A clue as to why Oregon St. had their worst season in 15 years is the fact that this is the first time in 14 years that the Beavers have had no one named to the All Conference first team.
