Saturday Night News and Notes

Just some loose ends to tie up. I should be out celebrating the final hours of 7/7/07, but no. I'm sitting in front of my computer, with SportsCenter nagging on the Yankees in the background. Story of our lives. Yankees Suck. Yankees Suck. Yet they're the only team that's ever on.

So, without any further ado, here we go:

Mentioned this a few days back (or was it yesterday?), but Jacoby Ellsbury got the boot back down to Triple-A Pawtucket. It's not a bad thing, he did his job. Let's take a look at Jacoby's stats for the few games he played in the bigs, what he's done in Triple-A, and what he did in his final season as a Beaver:

Jacoby Ellsbury :: Boston Red Sox
GP AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB OBP SLG AVG
6 16 3 6 1 0 0 1 2 0 1 .444 .438 .375
Jacoby Ellsbury :: Pawtucket Red Sox
GP AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB OBP SLG AVG
52 213 39 61 9 4 1 14 23 26 23 .361 .380 .286
Jacoby Ellsbury :: Junior Season at Oregon State
GP AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB OBP SLG AVG
59 244 56 99 19 3 6 48 36 21 26 .495 .592 .406

The move for Jacoby back down to Triple-A is not a bad one. Terry Francona and the rest of the Red Sox organization did not move Jacoby up to the Red Sox to be a back-up player, they want him to play every day. He filled in for the injured Coco Crisp in center, then got a few more opportunities to show Red Sox Nation what he's got, then he went back down. He did his job, and he should be back up in the majors before we know it.

Mike Riley and company released the practice dates for this summer. The first practice will be held on August 3rd, the earliest starting date for any Pac-10 team. The reason? Oregon State plays in the earliest game of any Pac-10 team, on August 30 against Utah. Here's the rest of their practices:

2007 August Practice Schedule (Subject to Change)

Aug. 3-7, 9, 11 (officials), 14, 16, 18 (officials), 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 – 2 p.m.

Aug. 8, 10, 13, 15, 17– 8:30 a.m. & 6:30 p.m.

Aug. 27-28 – 6:30 p.m.

I've got a whole load of ideas for season previews brewing in my head. I'll probably rolling out football previews this week or next. We'll see when I get around to it.

It seems like I had something else to say, but it has escaped me. That's all for now, folks. Hope your 7/7/07 was more exciting lucky than mine.

go beavers. I'm tired.
