Baseball Open Thread: OSU vs Portland (Game Two)
Beavs are 2 and 0 this weekend so far with a couple come from behind victories over Utah and Portland yesterday.
Today is the second game against Portland with Tanner Robles pitching for the Beavs and LHP Scott Burris pitching for Portland.
I'm happy we're two and zip for the tournament, but a little disappointed with the overall showing so far. The Utah game was a good one, but really the Portland win was a bit lucky and a better (and deeper pitching) team would have taken the Beavs to task for the lackluster performance they had. I realize that Casey and company are trying some new looks and all and it was a long day, but here's to a much more solid overall performance today.
I'll again only be around a little bit, if at all, and realize it is a pretty nice Sunday afternoon (and everyone else is at the game no?), but pop in here if you want to talk up the game a bit! And let's also hope that SBN people have the site fixed up so it doesn't go down on us again!
Go Beavs!

NCAA Tournament Selection Show Open Thread
Today marks the beginning of what many consider to be the best time of the year to be a sports fan. The weather is getting nicer, the NBA season is coming down the home stretch, baseball spring training is starting, but most importantly, March Madness officially kicks off at 3PM when the 65 team field will be revealed on CBS.
Craig Robinson hopes that his team will be featured on the Selection Sunday show at some point in the near future, but this year, the Beavers best bet looks like a berth into the College Basketball Invitational, where the team will look to defend their 2009 title.
At this point last season, the Beavers were 13-17 on the year. This year, they're 14-17.
With Washington defeating California in a very thrilling Pac-10 Tournament Championship game that I actually slept through but DVR'd later, the Huskies have guaranteed themselves a spot in the field, and Cal will likely join them.
The Pac-10's next best bet would be Arizona State, who sits at 22-10, but the Sun Devils' frustrating loss to Stanford in the Pac-10 tournament quarterfinals did nothing to impress the selection committee. Also, the tournament win by Washington and Minnesota's impressive run through the Big Ten Tournament means there likely isn't a spot for ASU in the field of 65.
As for the Beavers, they're awaiting a decision for the College Basketball Invitational, who would probably be glad to have Craig Robinson and the Beavers back again in 2010.
Once again, the selection show airs on CBS starting at 3PM Pacific.

Baseball Open Thread: OSU vs Portland
The Oregon State Beavers look to continue their winning ways tonight against Portland in Corvallis. The Beavers have an 1-0 record so far in the OSU Spring Tournament, after beating Utah earlier today. You can listen to the game in the Portland Area on KPAM 860.
The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 5:40 PM Pacific. I should be in the thread early on but I might not be present for the later innings.
Portland is 10-2 on the season.
GO BEAVERS!

What's Next for Beaver Basketball?
As California and Washington duke it out for the Pac-10 Tournament Championship today, the Beavers are licking their wounds and wondering just what could have happened over the last few days if the second half of Wednesday's quarterfinal game would have gone differently.
The Beavers finish the regular season at 14-17 after the post-season loss to the Huskies. Last season, the Beavers were eliminated from the conference tournament by Stanford, who also used a monumental second half rally to run the Beavers out of the Staples Center.
At this point last season, the Beavers were 13-17 overall.
As we all know, the CBI came calling, and the Beavers were able to make use of the opportunity by downing Houston, Vermont, Stanford (redemption!), and UTEP (twice) to win the CBI title.
Is another CBI tournament appearance in the works for the Beavers, who have a very similar record as compared to last season?
"We would love to try and defend our title. If there is enough room for us in one of these tournaments, specifically the CBI, that would be terrific," Coach Robinson said following the Pac-10 Tournament quarterfinal loss. "But you know me, when you end on a tough note, I want to make sure that the players want to do it because we wouldn't be able to do it if every single one of them said yes."
Tomorrow is the NCAA's Selection Sunday, and the NIT field is announced Monday morning. Last year, the Beavers were notified Monday night of their bid in the CBI, so Coach Robinson expects to know the post-season fate of his team by late Sunday or Monday.
