Right on the heels of Oregon running back Kenjon Barner deciding to return for his final season, the Ducks quarterback Darron Thomas announced that he won't be back.
Barner deciding to come back made sense, and surprised no one, given that he has various aspects of his game that can be refined, and he's only been a starter on occasion in the absence of LaMichael James.
Thomas' decision to make himself eligible for the NFL draft on the other hand, surprised everyone, and made no sense, given that most NFL analysts and scouts feel that issues with Thomas' size, accuracy, and mechanics mean he probably won't even be drafted, especially given his background solely as a spread system quarterback.
Makes one wonder if there were non-football considerations to Thomas' football decision. With his degree reportedly in hand, grades aren't an issue.
Thomas' decision also makes Bryan Bennett the front runner for the quarterback job at Oregon. And though the Ducks will still be the pre-season favorite to win the Pac-12 Northern Division, the move makes USC the strong favorite to win the Conference overall.
