Video: Boise State's Blue Turf Simulated in Corvallis
Ran past the Tommy Prothro Football Complex on my morning jog today, and found the OSU football maintenance crew painting the practice field blue. Video below, still images after the jump.
The paint was donated by an anonymous donor, we've heard.

Out of curiosity..
What does turf color have to do with playing football?

Nothing really. Playing football has to do with playing football.
This is gonna be a good one.

Well, based on last year's results, we would have been PAC 10 Champs too! :-P
Sorry for being an obnoxious Boise State Troll. I really do like the Beavs. Just not this week.

Wrong. Stanford beat Oregon last year too.
That didn’t make Stanford Pac-10 champs. The beavers beat Stanford last year. The logic that playing one good game means that you are better than every team that other team played is WACky logic. Of course the blue field is an advantage, otherwise Boise fans would defend it so much. I say all turf should be green, or else let’s lets the beavers go with neon orange, the ducks with neon yellow, and my favorite, bright purple for husky stadium.
Go Ducks!

I'm guessing it might be a little bit of a distraction
For the first 15 Minutes or so. If practicing on it all week means we play better in the 1st Quarter, then I’m all for it.
College GameDay, ABC Primetime, #3 vs #24. Doesn't get any better.
I can agree with this.
At first, it made no sense to me. But since none of the players are on the team that played Boise in 2006 are still there, I can see getting a bit of extra time to adjust to the new look.

This does seem kinda silly.
Unless the blue turf affects lines of sight or something, I’m not sure there’s much point. On the other hand, perhaps giving the team the chance to practice in as close to the environment as possible is worth it. Crank up some crowd speakers, give them a blue field to work on, and let’s go.
Anything (legal) that contributes to help us crush Boise is fine with me. :)
Exactly.

money?
so, who exactly paying for this? The paint and time can’t be cheap. I’m all for it if it is being paid for by a private donor, but not if my tax money and students tuition is being used for it.

As for time, it can be that cheap. We’d be paying the
grounds crew anyway.

As a Boise State fan...
I think this is a pretty smart idea. It doesn’t necessarily capture the Boise experience, but I don’t think that it is being done in an attempt to prepare for 34,000 people. I think this is being done to make sure that Oregon State players are mentally focused on their next game. It is a constant reminder that they are going to play a road game against a ranked opponent and that they need to be thinking about Boise State every second of practice.
In that way, I think this is a pretty smart move. Excited to see if it pays off or not on Saturday.
I think it’s partly for some extra publicity, too. On the radio, it sounded like OSU gave ESPN a heads-up and told them to keep it quiet until it happened. Expect blurbs about Oregon State on ESPN all week!
You know what I would love?
An ESPN extra on what OSU is doing. Then square out some turf in some spots and dig some pits underneath them where some blue jersey-wearing scout team players can literally pop out of the ground ala Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

not to help you guys but..
i believe that if the offense and defense for oregon state took turns suiting up in blue unis and got to experience the blue turf as the back drop, the beavs would learn to use their instincts instead of eyes to see bsu. I’m guessing its like fighting agents in the matrix. What is the ridiculous home record again? 54 and 2?
Been smokin that Blue since '00
The scout team will be wearing blue unis this week.
