Depth Chart for Portland State

The initial depth chart for the Portland State game has been established, and is available after the jump below.

The most notable reading is at the receiver positions. With Darrell Catchings out of the game, Damola Adeniji gets the start at split end (the X receiver).

And despite being out of practice for two weeks due to the NCAA Clearinghouse issue, Marcus Wheaton is still listed second on the chart at flanker by the Oregon State coaching staff. This probably shouldn't be read as great hope that the issue will finally and suddenly be resolved, but rather, an indication that if James Rodgers needs a break, look for more plays without a true flanker, with the slot up on the line, and more use of the H-backs.

Brent McNeil was listed as the second string left tackle by the Beaver staff as well, but left the program mid-week. Geoff Garner, a freshman back from an LDS mission, slides up behind freshman Michael Phillip, guaranteeing a freshman will be at left tackle all day.

This could be another reason for a lot of play for tight ends and H-backs on that side, should blocking help prove necessary. And given that the Viking's probable starters at defensive end, Travis Beckley and Joe Ma’aseia, are veterans who combined for 45 tackles last season.

The good, the bad and the ugly...

Thanks for pulling this together (good), however I didn’t know Darrell had changed his name (bad). Finally the ugly is here, strike that name off the list!
