Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Postgame React: Oregon 37, Oregon State 33

It was a great game. It came down to the final possession.

And the Beavers didn't come out on top.

They jumped out to an early lead.... they rallied... but penalties riddled the Beavers, and they couldn't get the ball back at the end of the game. There are other things to point to as well... Oregon converting fourth downs... blown coverages... and missed tackles. But the Beavers fought hard and left it all out on the field... it's hard to complain about that.

Jacquizz Rodgers rushed for 64 yards on 16 carries and Sean Canfield was 24 of 36 passing for 306 yards. Jeremiah Masoli passed for 201 yards and rushed for another 40... LaMichael James rushed for 166, and Lagarette Blount saw some time, rushing for 51 yards and a score.

Sure, losing twice to Oregon with the Rose Bowl on the line hurts. But congratulations to the Ducks on a well played game, and best of luck in Rose Bowl.

Your thoughts welcome in the thread.

I agree Jake

But it’s still a bitter pill to swallow. I’m really looking forward to The Beav’s team next season. These guys are coming back even better with experience.

You folks have nothing to be ashamed of

As an Oregon fan I have to say that was the best played Civil War I have ever seen.

Best of luck in the future.

Gotta score in the red zone.

Has been that case all year. So disappointed. Heck of a game and wish the beavs came out on top.
Lets just go beat another top 25 team in a bowl game I guess.

by HighSchoolQuarterback on Dec 3, 2009 9:39 PM PST reply actions

Meh

The defense was about the best they could do, they overplayed quite a bit of runs, and that was painful to watch but that’s just how you have to play the spread/read offense. The false starts sucked but again that’s what happens in places like that. Nothing I would really call “bonehead” unless you remember something I don’t.

by HighSchoolQuarterback on Dec 3, 2009 9:46 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, you're right

Nothing specific comes to mind, only frustration

by RayBeavFan on Dec 3, 2009 9:58 PM PST up reply actions

Yup

the USC game was bonehead plays, I guess they improved since then in that department.

by HighSchoolQuarterback on Dec 3, 2009 10:03 PM PST up reply actions

Ducks are probably the early favorite for the Pac-10 next year

They lose few players of importance, and come back with more experience.

Of course, they get USC on the road (and us as well).

The big question for us, I think, is replacing Canfield. If Lyle can’t come back, are the young guys ready—or should Mike Riley be combing the JUCOs?

Still Numb

It’s always tough when the other team is able to just run out the clock (but we’ve done it to teams before also}. I think it boils down to FGs vs. TDs when you play an offense like the Ducks. Too many FGS not enough TDs. O-line picked a bad time to falter a little, but they were great through 2/3rds of the game of pass protection.

I feel bad for Riley. I saw real frustration on his face when the Beavs could not stop them on 4th down. Someone missed an assignment.

And I appreciate all the support, but everyone coming over here to tell us how great we are despite the fact we lost still feels like salting our wounds a bit.

They’re just being good sports :) But yeah, this loss hurts. Given the procedure penalties, I think this one would’ve been a close win if in Corvallis or a neutral field. But it wasn’t, so what can you do? :-/

Thanks Killer Bee

Saw a lot of “converts” on both sides tonight, as the teams proved to even the most extreme fans that they both belonged on the big stage.

Congratulations, and enjoy Pasadena!

I'm not so sure, and if so I think those fans should talk to other Duck fans

I think the Beavs gained a good deal respect from Duck fans from this game. At least that’s what I heard from many around me at the game.

Disappointment

The beavers played a good game but these are games that have to be won if OSU ever wants to be considered better than being “a good little team”. For the last two years OSU has given away the opprotunity to gain more national exposure, fundraising money and recruiting exposure by not being able to win a big game when it matters. Chances like these (going to the rose bowl) don’t come often. As a fan I would live to see OSU take the next step to where UO is now, but as long as they fail to seize the moment they will always be just little ol’ lunch pail u and nothing more. In the long run that hurts a football program.

by EDS on Dec 3, 2009 10:50 PM PST reply actions

I agree

…but when you think about it, we just don’t have the money and national hype, er, exposure to expect anything more right now. It’s a happy miracle that Mike Riley and the bunch have us where we’ve been in recent years. That next step will come eventually :-)

by scotty256 on Dec 4, 2009 1:19 AM PST up reply actions

wow

what a game!! my hat goes off to the beavers(Canifield was blowing my mind) , but lets not wait 113 more times to have the Civil war for the rose bowl

I know you don’t want to hear anything from Duck fans right now, but I’m honestly a Duck fan that roots for the Beavers in every game except the Civil War (VD as my witness). I just want to say that I hope to god the Beavers get the Holiday Bowl.

It's possible with the multiway tie for second place in the pac-10

But I find it hard to believe that the holiday bowl people wouldn’t pick a more marketable and team like USC or Cal.

I have a sinking feeling we’re doomed to the vegas bowl.

There have been a lot of Duck fans here already, but I’m gonna add to it.

Every time I doubt the Beavs or Mike Riley, they prove me wrong. Your team played an excellent game, and I am very proud of both Oregon schools right now. Hats off to your team. Go Ducks and Go Beavs.

I just got back so wanted to post a couple quick thoughts, I’ll try to have some more later tomorrow (no promises though).

First impression, I actually got to hear Chip Kelly being interviewed for the Oregon radio show, and I’m sure Beavs fans didn’t listen, don’t blame you, BUT he gave some big time props to Canfield. He’s the “real deal,” “he’s the ONLY QB who has come into here and was not phased at all” (something to that effect). And you know what Sean did play a hell of a game, I was VERY VERY impressed by how posed he was. He looked like the “real deal.” I’m going to miss him next (until the next one steps up).

Second impression: Maybe others at the game had a different experience, but I was pretty darned impressed with the Oregon fans at Autzen. That was a pretty neat environment to be in, loud and boisterous, but with all you hear about it I have to honest I expected the worse, but even though I admit I’m not the type to put my OSUness versus your team in everyone’s face the experience I had with being in the thick of the Yellow and Green was respectful and memorable. My hats off to you and your team.

Third (this is a grumpy) impression: This OSU deserves better than the Las Vegas bowl, nuff said.

rvm, I’m glad that you had a good experience at Autzen. I’ve never seen the worst, but heard stories, and hope that it never happens again.

Also, yes, OSU deserves much better than the Las Vegas Bowl.

Boy, I've been putting a lot of despondent comments on here

That was still a great game until about 5 minutes left, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Here’s hoping with a much nicer home schedule next year, we won’t need a civil war victory to clinch a rose bowl berth.

Neither team wanted it more, they both wanted it equally bad

Last team with the ball wins that game and too bad it was UO. I tell you I totally felt, just like that USC game, that if the Beavs get the ball back Canfield takes them down and wins that game. But the Ducks gritted it out with some guts and were able to run the clock out, for I think they had the same feeling as I did!

Just noticed something while watching the replay

I don’t really watch much of the Beavers, so I don’t know if this is normal or not.

Did anyone else notice Moevao on the field during kickoff returns? Is this… normal? Was ESPN giving wrong information? Does OSU have a kickoff return pass play in their arsenal?

by chrees on Dec 4, 2009 1:22 AM PST reply actions

ESPN was on crack

I saw that in the captions, too… One time it said James Rodgers was kicking off to Lyle Moevao I think XD

by scotty256 on Dec 4, 2009 1:52 AM PST up reply actions

20/20 hindsight ?

I wish we’d kicked the FG, and tried an onside kick. Even if we didn’t recover, the Ducks would have a short field to score from. Then we’d of had the ball back with more time to score again. A 2 point conversion for the tie and OT. It was a great game, but I couldn’t stop screaming for SOMEONE to strip Masoli whenever he scrambled. He holds the ball like a loaf of bread a lot.

Hey Beavers, it was another tough loss, obviously. All i can say is that your coach, Mike Riley is a classy man who is impossible to hate. He is the reason Ducks respect Beavers…one can’t help but pull for a guy who is so decent and honorable. Hang on to him.

Play and Call that changed the game

The 4th and 6 that the Ducks had with 7:45 left in the 3rd Quarter was not converted. In my mind, if we get the ball back up 9 we have a damn good shot at winning that game.
