The 3-star WR will wait to sign until his academics are up to par

Dionte Sykes is a 6-foot-4, 213-pound wideout from Mesa Community College. The talented WR is reportedly waiting until May to sign his National Letter of Intent. There were rumors of a potential hold up for Dionte Sykes due to academics, so this is not entirely surprising. But, the coaching staff will continue to work with him until he is eligible for the Beavers.

Sykes held offers from San Diego State and Utah State, but also was talking with Mississippi State and Eastern Michigan.

Coming out of high school (Chandler) Sykes had received a ton of interest from high-profile programs. He originally committed to UCLA, but eventually decided to sign with San Diego State. After failing to qualify he ultimately landed at Mesa Community College.

Sykes has been redshirting this season in order to preserve an additional year of eligibility. He will have three years of eligibility once he suits up for the Beavers. Sykes will finish up his two-degree in May and will hopefully be ready to play for Oregon State next fall.

Dionte Sykes is a big, physical receiver that could immediately help boost the Beavers receiving corps. He uses his body well to get open and win jump-balls over smaller defenders. He is also an excellent run-blocker and stays on his blocks to help his running backs break long runs.

Sykes importance in the recruiting class can’t be overlooked, especially after the decommitment of Jamire Calvin. Plus also just look at how huge his arms are, which is an important thing for intimidation purposes. He also makes the same very hard look in every single picture of him, which I respect.

Onesimus Lutu-Clarke wasn’t as highly recruited as some of Oregon State’s other recruits, but he also held offers from Hawaii and BYU. Lutu-Clarke could develop into a very talented offensive lineman though. And the coaching staff seems higher on him than many recruiting services.

Look for Lutu-Clarke to spend a year redshirting and getting acclimated to the college game. He should be a very good offensive lineman for Oregon State moving forward though.
