Robin Ross Hired AT UNLV

+

One of the pieces to the Oregon St. coaching staff puzzle is gone, as Robin Ross, whose' stint as a graduate assistant to Beavers coach Mike Riley ran out at the end of last season, has moved on. UNLV coach Bobby Hauck today announced the hiring of Robin Ross as the Rebels' new linebackers coach.

TST does a piece on the Beavers to enter the Draft

1

"Several Beavers will be on display this week at the Combine, with varying levels of exposure for each one. Fans and draftniks will be eager to see these Beavers. The St. Louis Rams would be wise to keep an eye on all three of these Beavers since each one potentially fills a big need. ... "

Mock Draft - Paea to Rams?!

2

Yet another of the numerous NFL mock drafts, and there will be a crap-load more to come. However, this one projects Stephen Paea to get drafted by the Rams in the first round. Despite his surgery, his stock apparently rose: "14. St. Louis Rams: Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State. With the top two receivers off the board, the Rams may look to trade down - that's the clear biggest need. Paea, however, would be a great fit in Steve Spagnuolo's defense, but teams will need to make sure that his surgically repaired meniscus won't keep him out of training camp." I'd be happy with another Beaver on a Rams squad.

Paea Hurts Knee At Senior Bowl Practice

2

Ted Miller has bad news about Oregon St.'s Stephen Paea, who has injured his knee in preparations for the Senior Bowl. Paea will undergo surgery Thursday to repair the lateral meniscus in his right knee, after an MRI revealed the damage, and will miss Saturday's Senior Bowl game in Mobile, Alabama. "I hurt it on the second play of practice. They said I sprained it," Paea said. "It sucks, but I'll be back as soon as possible. I'll get back to work and get back on the field. It could have been a lot worse." It it isn't a disaster, and Paea may still draft high, assuming a full recovery. But the bench press record at the combine may survive, and Paea might slide some spots on draft day. (Updated) Andy_Wooldridge@yahoo.com

Latest OSU verbal Noa Aluesi, Jefferson HS (Portland), DE. Sounds like he'll go on his Mormon mission first, which sucks, but he's quite the prospect. Raw, athletic and huge (6'8!).

Stanford Settles On Shaw

2

Oregon St. fans can stop thinking about the consequences of either Beavers' coach Mike Riley or former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti taking the Stanford job. Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News has reported that current Cardinal offensive coordinator David Shaw will be named today to replace Jim Harbaugh as head coach down on the Farm. Shaw has been integral in the conversations even before Harbaugh made his plans official, and has the support of the locker room. What is less clear is how many, if any, of the other primary assistants will stay, most notably associate head coach Greg Roman, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The Rule of Tree has all the details of how the Cardinal got here, and will follow how the assistant staff unfolds. Andy_Wooldridge@yahoo.com

Harbaugh Aparently Headed To 49ers

4

Avinash Kunnath, one of our brother writers over at California Golden Blogs, is breaking the news that Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh will sign a 5 year $25 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers. And he won't even have to move! Nothing is sure until the ink is dry, but the most likely outcome to this is actually looking like the likely outcome. What Stanford does next remains to be seen, but watch for an internal promotion to keep continuity.
