Another top prospect that signed with Oregon State baseball was taken in the MLB draft Monday afternoon. Outfielder Gavin Turley was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 558th overall pick, in the 19th round of the draft.

Turley attended Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, where he was a very highly rated prospect. Perfect Game ranked him as the fifth best outfielder in the 2022 recruiting class, and the 16th best player overall. While he announced his commitment to Oregon State, most were speculating that with a high enough draft pick Turley would probably end up going to a Major League organization.
The 19th round is well below where Turley was expected to go. MLB.com had Turley as the 107th best prospect in the draft, which would put him in line for a third or fourth round selection. It’s possible that Turley told teams that unless he was an early round pick he would be attending college, causing teams to stay away after the first few rounds. We’ll have to wait and see what Turley decides to do at this point.
That’s all the news from this year’s MLB Draft. We’ll have a round up of all the Oregon State news for you later.
