It didn’t take long for another Beaver to come off the draft boards Tuesday morning. With the 394th overall pick, in the 13th round, the Oakland Athletics picked up Oregon State pitcher Jake Pfennigs.

After Cooper Hjerpe, Pfennigs was the Beavers go to starter for the 2022 season. Over 11 starts Pfennigs picked up a 4-1 record, with a 3.96 ERA. Coming to Corvallis from Post Falls High School in Post Falls, Idaho, Pfennigs has been a consistent starter. He’s been with the Beavers for four seasons (including the abbreviated 2020 campaign) and been a starter for the last three, for an overall record of 12-4.
Pfennigs, a junior, was expected to go a little higher in the draft, but concerns over his top speed and control appear to have caused him to slip from late day 2 to early day 3. We’ll see what he decides to do with his remaining year of eligibility.
There should be more Beavers coming off the board today, so check back for more updates.
