The Seattle Seahawks are signing former Oregon State quarterback, Sean Mannion, to a new contract. Mannion spent four seasons with the Rams after being selected in the 3rd round (89th overall) of the the 2015 NFL Draft. Last season he was with the Minnesota Vikings and had been searching for a new home this offseason.
Former Rams and Vikings QB Sean Mannion is signing with the Seahawks, per source.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 1, 2021
Sean Mannion re-wrote the history books while at Oregon State, but has not had the same opportunity in the NFL. He’s consistently been the backup quarterback for his team each season he’s been in the NFL; but has only started two games and attempted just 74 passes in his professional career.
The Seahawks have a full quarterback room. Russell Wilson leads the way but he is currently backed up by: Geno Smith, Danny Etling and Alex McGough. The Seahawks were looking to put more pressure on Geno Smith to earn the backup QB job. It’s unclear how the depth chart or roster will take shape as the season nears, but I Sean Mannion is a talented player and should find himself earning a roster spot with the Seahawks for this upcoming season.
