Oregon State Basketball: Junior Guard Tariq Silver Enters The Transfer Portal

The former JUCO transfer becomes the second Beavers player to exit the program this off-season.

As was somewhat expected, another Beavers player entered the transfer portal this week, when junior guard Tariq Silver announced he would be moving on to a different program. The news comes just days after scarcely used guard Julien Franklin announced the same decision, in an off-season which is expected to see an all-time high number of student-athletes transferring.

Silver, who began his collegiate career at Eastern Michigan, transferred into Oregon State from Tallahassee Community College prior to the start of the 2020-2021 campaign. This past season, he appeared in 23 games for the Beavers, averaging 1.6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game, all while playing just 7.4 minutes per game.

The situation of both Silver and Franklin departing means Oregon State will need to add some guards to the mix, which likely will come more via the transfer portal than on the traditional high school recruiting front. Already, the Beavers have Fairleigh Dickinson transfer guard Xzavier Malone-Key committed for the 2021 class, who sat down for a Q&A with us back in January.
