Oregon State tried all they could to play spoiler to Oregon’s bid at a Pac-12 regular season on Sunday night, but the rival Ducks were simply too much to handle, holding down the Beavers in an 80-67 loss.
Oregon had five players score in double-figures, led by resurgent talent Will Richardson, who finished with 22 points on a 6-7 day from behind the arc. However, it wasn’t just Richardson who got going from long range. As a team, the Ducks shots a ridiculous 15-23 (65.2%) from three-point land and assisted on 18 of their 27 made field goals overall.
Eugene Omoruyi was the team’s second leading scorer with 16 points, while Eric Williams posted 14 points and 6 rebounds. Guards Chris Duarte and LJ Figueroa both chipped in 10 points of their own, with the former dishing out 6 assists as well.
For the Beavers, the defeat saw their four seemingly reliable pieces as of late play well once again and the rest of the team go missing. Regular go-to star Ethan Thompson finished with a team-high 16 points, while a very active Warith Alatishe added 14 points and 7 boards. Guard Jarod Lucas pieced together 12 points and big man Roman Silva went for 10 points and 6 boards on an efficient 5-6 shooting game, especially as Oregon’s Omoruyi went through a stretch of foul trouble.
With the defeat, Oregon State snaps a three-game winning streak and finishes the regular season at 14-12 overall with a 10-10 mark in conference play. They will receive a #5 seed in the upcoming Pac-12 Tournament and play #4 UCLA on Thursday (March 11th).
