After getting rained out yesterday, the Beavers and Huskies returned to the baseball field Monday afternoon to wrap up their weekend series. Oregon State’s hitters found their groove early, powering the team to a 13-3 win that gave the Beavers the series sweep. Oregon State improves to 17-5, and 5-1 in conference play.
Joe Casey had one of his biggest games today. He got the Beaver scoring started in the top of the second with a three run homer that also scored Troy Claunch and Jake Dukart. In the top of the second, Casey added another three RBIs with a big triple that scored Dukart, Garret Forrester and Ryan Ober. Casey added one more run with a single in the top of the fifth that scored Dukart a third time.
Casey’s statline at the end of the day was impressive. 3 hits on 5 plate appearances, with 7 RBIs. Casey wasn’t the only Beaver with three hits today; Troy Claunch also had three hits, and Garreet Forrester, Jacob Melton and Andy Armstrong each had two. In fact, the only Beavers not to register a hit today were Jake Dukart and Kyler McMahan, and Dukart still managed to reach base three times.
Will Frisch picked up the win as the starter, moving him to 2-0 this season. He pitched for 5.0 innings, striking out 7 while allowing 4 hits. He allowed 1 earned run in the bottom of the second; giving up a big triple to the Huskies’ Christian Jones that scored one.
Oregon State will not get a lot of time off; tomorrow they’ll be in Portland for a game against the Portland Pilots. That game is set for 6:00 PM PT and will be streamed on WCCSports.com. Then, starting Thursday, they’ll begin a home series against the Utah Utes. It’s going to be a busy week for the Beavers.
