After a bizarre game Tuesday evening, the Beavers settled down and put together a nice, big blowout win over the Santa Clara Broncos to split their midweek series. Oregon State’s offense started early and their pitching completely shut down Santa Clara en route to a 9-0 win. The Beavers move to 14-5.

The first two innings passed quickly, but in the bottom of the third the Beavers started to pop off. Matthew Gretler was hit by a pitch, and then a single from Cole Hamilton and a fielding error got Gretler to third. A Kyler McMahan double scored both Hamilton and Gretler, getting the Beavers their first couple of runs.

In the bottom of the fourth, Andy Armstrong and Matthew Gretler reached base with a pair of singles, setting up a big at bat for Kyler McMahan. McMahan put up a hell of a fight at the plate, and on the 10th pitched belted one way over the wall, scoring another three runs for the Beavers.

The offensive onslaught continued in the bottom of the fifth. An Andy Armstrong double scored Joe Casey to start things off. Armstrong was then scored by a Matthew Gretler single, and Gretler in turn reached home on a Gavin Logan double. That hit was Logan’s first as a Beaver, and a few innings later, in the bottom of the eighth, he had his second; a big solo home run to left field.

That was Oregon State’s last run, but with the performance of the pitching group it was far more than they’d need. Oregon State didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning. Starter Jack Washburn got the win, moving him to 3-0 for the season.

After a 10 game home stand, the Beavers will finally leave Corvallis this weekend. They’ll head up to Seattle for a series with Washington. The first game will be Friday, March 26th with first pitch set for 5:00 PM PT. The game will be livestreamed on Pac-12.com.
