Former Memphis Tiger Ahmad Rand has signed with Oregon State, the team announced today. Rand, a 6’8” and 185 pound power forward originally from Lincolnton, Georgia, entered the transfer portal on December 31, and will be eligible to play next season.

Rand started his collegiate career at USC Salkahatchie in Allendale South Carolina, and was rated as one of the top JUCO prospects in the country. The Beavers offered him last April, but Rand attracted a lot of attention, and elected to attend Memphis. In addition to those two schools, Rand was also offered by Georgia, South Carolina State, St. John’s, VCU, Weber State and Wichita State.

Rand appeared in three games at Memphis, but his time with the team was limited after he missed time due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocols. He finished his time as a Tiger with 8 rebounds, a block and a steal. He scored no points.

Rand is the second big name to join the Beavers’ class of 2021. Last November Oregon State signed Dashawn Davis, another highly rated JUCO prospect out of Trinity Valley Community College. With the team coming off a big win over Arizona State, the Beavers feel like they’re moving in a good direction.
