More awards are releasing their preseason watch lists, and once again Hamilcar Rashed Jr. makes the cut. This time, its the Bronko Nagurski Trophy that’’s keeping its eye on Rashed. The award, which is handed out to each season’s best defensive player as decided by the Football Writers Association of America, announced their preseason favorites earlier today.

Rashed is one of the early favorites for the award after his incredible 2019 season, during which he racked up 43 solo tackles, 22.5 tackles for a loss and 14 sacks. Some of the other big names to watch on the list include Miami’s Gregory Rousseau, LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr., Penn State’s Micah Parsons, Pitt’s Jaylen Twyman and Stanford’s Paulson Adebo. Last year the trophy went to Ohio State’s Chase Young, who was later picked up by Washington with the second selection in the NFL Draft.

The Nagurski is just the latest watch list Rashed has been put on; only yesterday he was singled out for the Butkus Award. Check that article for a more extensive list of Rashed’s preseason credentials.

Rashed wasn’t the only Beaver making a watch list today; the FWAA also released their watch list for the Outland Trophy, given to the nation’s top interior lineman and OSU’s Brandon Kipper made the cut. Kipper was an All-Pac 12 Honrable Mention at tackle last season, and allowed only one sack.
