Game 1: (#4) Golden Eagles 83, (#12) Team Brotherly Love 76

The first team to move on to the semi-finals (aka last four) of the TBT 2020 was last year’s runners up, Golden Eagles (Marquette Alumni), who knocked off a worthy challenger in Team Brotherly Love, 83-76.

The trio of Dwight Buycks (Marquette), Darius Johnson-Odom (Marquette) and Jamil Wilson (Marquette) accounted for 52 of the Golden Eagles’ 83 points, while helping the former Marquette stars to outscore Team Brotherly Love by a healthy 35-21 margin in bench points.

Swingmen Elgin Cook (Oregon) had a strong all-around game, chipping in 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Jarvis Williams (Minnesota State-Mankato) added 8 points as well.

In the defeat, Team Brotherly Love’s Samme Givens (Drexel) finished with a game-high 22 points (8-10 FG) and 13 rebounds.

Up Next: #4 Golden Eagles moves on to play #8 Red Scare on Sunday, July 12th at 4:00 PM EST.

Game 2: (#8) Red Scare 83, (#16) House Of ‘Paign 76

No, this is no typo. Both TBT 2020 games on Friday ended with identical 83-76 scorelines and both featured the favorite teams knocking off an underdog challenger.

Red Scare (Dayton Alumni) were anchored by five double-digit scorers, including 19 points and 8 rebounds from Trey Landers (Dayton) and double-doubles from both Trevor Thompson (Ohio State) and Devin Oliver (Dayton). Ryan McMahon (Louisville) and Ryan Mikesell (Dayton) both poured in 16 points in the victory.

While House Of ‘Paign (Illinois Alumni) dethroned the top overall seed Carmen’s Crew (Ohio State Alumni) in the Super 16, the quarterfinals told a much different story for the boys from the Land Of Lincoln.

Andres Feliz (Illinois) had a monster outing of 17 points and 14 rebounds, while three other players reached double-figures in scoring. Malcolm Hill (Illinois) narrowly missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 boards, which echoed the story of the contest for House of ‘Paign. While they weren’t necessarily awful, they just came up a bit too short when it mattered most.

Up Next: #8 Red Scare moves on to play #4 Golden Eagles on Sunday, July 12th at 4:00 PM EST.
