Oregon State picked up their biggest win of the 2019-2020 season on Saturday, when they knocked off arch rival and #14 ranked Oregon in a thrilling 63-53 battle in Corvallis. Despite trailing by four at the half, the Beavers outscored the Ducks by a 35-21 margin in the second frame to secure the surprise victory.

In a rare balance of offense, Oregon State saw four of their seven scorers on the night reach double-figures, including Ethan Thompson (15 points), Kylor Kelley (14 points), Tres Tinkle (13 points) and Zach Reichle (11 points). The Beavers finished with an impressive 17 assists on 23 made field goals and managed just seven personal fouls for the whole game.

For Oregon, the Ducks were led by a game-high 16 points from point guard Payton Pritchard, who racked up an inefficient 7-21 shooting performance from the field. Fellow guard Chris Duarte also scored in double-digits for Dana Altman’s squad, chipping in 11 points.

To be honest, if anyone said they saw this coming after Oregon State’s recent run of inconsistent play (losing five of their last seven overall), they’d likely be lying. The Beavers performance was a complete outlier to what we’ve seen from this team and hopefully, a sign of some great things to come.

Up Next: Oregon State returns to the hardwood on Thursday, February 13th, when they host Utah at 6:00 PM PT. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
