After a hard couple of weeks, the Beavers are back in the win column. Despite a lot of pressure from Cal in the first half of the game, the Beavers took control in the second to get a 76-63 win over the Golden Bears. The Beavers improve to 20-8, and 8-8 in the conference.
Cal grabbed the early lead in the first quarter, but the usual Beaver trio of Mikayla Pivec, Destiny Slocum, and Taylor Jones kept OSU in the hunt. Pivec in particular was phenomenal, with 8 points in the first frame. Cal managed to have an edge in the first, with nearly every member of the team hitting one shot, but the Beavers kept things close, finishing the quarter down 16-14.

Mikayla Pivec got the Beavers the lead early in the second, hitting a layup and then a pair of free throws to put OSU in front. Cal battled back to tie things up, but Destiny Slocum started to break through, scoring 7 points in the quarter, and grabbed a one point, 25-24 lead for the Beavers at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Beavs took control, with Maddie Washhington emerging as the star of the show. Coach Rueck decided to pull Jones, Pivec and Slocum for a bit, and Washington took on the role as the Beavers’ biggest scoring threat, hitting four jumpers for 8 points and keeping the Beavers in front despite a big push from the Bears. Oregon State did run into foul trouble early, hitting 5 around the five minute mark putting the Bears in the bonus, but at that point the stars came back in, and powered the Beavers to a 52-43 lead heading into the final quarter.

A 10 point run to open the fourth quarter just about put things away for Oregon State. Aleah Goodman got into the game in a big way, scoring the first four points of the quarter, and Mikayla Pivec had a history making performance, grabbing her 1,000th rebound in addition to scoring six points. Cal never managed to make it back into the game, and the Beavers got the win, 76-63.
Pivec led the team in scoring with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Destiny Slocum had 17 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds. Taylor Jones had 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Maddie Washington also finished with 10 points, and grabbed 6 rebounds.

The Beavers have one more weekend in the regular season, and they’ll be at home to finish things out. They’ll welcome the Washington schools to Gill Coliseum next weekend, with the Huskies visiting on Friday, February 28th and the Cougars coming to town on Sunday, March 1st. OSU will need to win both games to clinch a winning record in the Pac-12, so get out and support the team if you can.
