Oregon State started a huge road series this morning against the 6th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. Christian Chamberlain got the start and delivered in a big way with a career-high 12 strikeouts. In 5.1 innings, Chamberlain gave up just 2 hits and threw 85 pitches. Reid Sebby kept it going, until the wheels fell off in the 8th inning for Oregon State. The Bulldogs tacked on all of their runs in that fateful inning and cruised to victory.
It was a cold morning game (40 degrees + wind) in Starkville, Mississippi with a some wind blowing in from the outfield. Runs were hard to come by early as both teams left plenty of runners stranded on base (7-to-6).
The Bulldogs put a lot of pressure on the Beavers bullpen though and eventually did their damage in the 8th inning. They loaded the bases with nobody out. A base hit from Rowdey Jordan got the scoring started. Then a 3-run homer from Brandon Pimentel did most of the damage.
Troy Claunch and Andy Armstrong both had timely hits early in the game to bring in the Beavers two runs of the game. Alex McGarry narrowly missed a home run in right field, that would have been gone if it had traveled another foot or two.
The competitive 3-game series will continue in tomorrow morning in Starkville.
