The Beavers have to swallow another tough loss, as the team fell just short today on the road against Cal. After an intense, back and forth battle, the Beavers couldn’t close the deal in the final seconds, with the Golden Bears winning 69-67. OSU falls to 13-9, and 3-7 in conference, while Cal improves to 13-9, and 4-5.
Cal jumped out to an early lead in the first, but the Beavers battled back, keeping the margin to a single score for most of the period. While the Golden Bears led for most of the first half, an 8 point run from Oregon State, including Tres Tinkle scoring the final six points of the half, gave the Beavers a 32-30 edge at halftime.
The game continued to be a battle in the second, with neither team able to pull away from the other. With the game tied at 64-64, with just over two minutes to go, it was time for some clutch performances. Cal got a back to back layups from Andre Kelly and Grant Antecevich to grab a 4 point lead, while Oregon State couldn’t make their shots. Alfred Hollins got the Beavers to within one with a layup and a free throw, but a series of fouls, turnovers and a charging call on Tres Tinkle cost them the chance for the win.
Tres Tinkle was once again the team’s top scorer, with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Alfred Hollins was right behind him, with 14 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. Kylor Kelley and Zach Reichle each added 8 points, with Kelley also contributing 8 rebounds and a block, and Reichle adding 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
The Beavers will be back home next weekend for the first game in this season’s Civil War. Oregon will come to Gill Coliseum on Saturday, February 8th. Tip off is set for 7:30 PM PT.
