After three straight losses, the Beavers needed a big win to keep them in contention for a prime seed in the NCAA Tournament, and they got businessmen done tonight against Colorado. Fueled by excellent three point shooting, and an absolutely massive game from Aleah Goodman, the Beavers scored a huge 79-52 win over the Colorado Buffaloes to improve to 17-4, and 5-4 in the Pac-12. They get the season sweep over Colorado, having beaten the Buffaloes 72-60 a few weeks ago in Corvallis.
Kat Tudor got the Beavers scoring going with a three. While those would end up Tudor’s only points tonight, it set the tone for the rest of the game. Destiny Slocum hit another three just 30 seconds later, and few minutes later Aleah Goodman followed that with a pair of threes back to back.
Goodman had been struggling lately, and the Beavers had been trying out Kat Tudor as their fifth starter, but Aleahh was unstoppable tonight. She hit 7 of her 9 three point attempts, and finished the night with 26 total points.
The Beavers led 19-12 after the first, but a scoring drought allowed the Buffaloes to catch up. Goodman, with some help from Mikayla Pivec, managed to keep OSU in front, and grab back the momentum late in the quarter to give the Beavers a 37-28 halftime lead.
Colorado’s shooting went cold in the third, while the Beavers kept pouring on threes. Oregon State outscored Colorado 24-13 in the quarter, to take a commanding lead the Buffaloes could not hope to challenge.
Destiny Slocum was the only Beaver other than Goodman to hit double digits tonight, with 12 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds. Kennedy Brown had another excellent game, with 7 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and a block.
Oregon State’s three point shooting was the story of the night. In addition to Goodman’s 7, Destiny Slocum added 3, and Kat Tudor, Jasmine Simmons and Janessa Thropay had one each. The team hit 13 of their 19 attempts. That’s a big turnaround from their recent games, where they’d struggled from the perimeter.
Up next, the Beavers will have a rematch against Utah. Oregon State won round 1 in Corvallis 77-48. Since then, the Utes have gone 3-4 in the Pac-12. Tip off is set for 11:00 AM PST on Saturday, February 1st.
