- In case you were living under that rock, the Beavers football squad fell to Oklahoma State in their season opener, maligned still by an anemic defense. We covered the game from all aspects as usual, including our own post-game grades, a look at what we learned about the Beavers from the contest and of course, some podcasting with an emphasis on the defensive side of things. Our friends (and recent adversaries) over at Cowboys Ride for Free, SB Nation’s Oklahoma State site, had a recap of their own and some personal thoughts in podcast land.
- Next up on the football schedule for Oregon State will be Hawaii (aka an art major), who held off Arizona in their Week 0 debut in impressive fashion. In case you missed the contest, Mountain West Connection has some advanced stats to dive deep into to get a deeper scope of who the Warriors, or maybe you’d rather do some film study of Hawaii. Regardless of what you like, it’s always fun to take a look at the good, the bad and the ugly of Hawaii-Arizona.
- This weekend was not a good time to be an Oregon State alumni in the NFL, as many former players were cut in team’s efforts to consolidate down to a 53-man roster. The Jacksonville Jaguars parted ways with Kalani Vakameilalo, the New Orleans Saints cut Jacquizz Rodgers, the Indianapolis Colts released Obum Gwacham, the Dallas Cowboys moved on from Treston Decoud and the Chicago Bears fired and then re-hired Ryan Nall, who will remain on the team’s practice squad. At least it’s Matt Moore (aka America’s back-up) time in Kansas City.
- And finally, one story that went a bit overlooked in the chaotic swirl of the start of college football, the Oklahoma City Thunder have signed forward Eric Moreland to a training camp deal. First reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 6’ 10” forward split time between the Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors last season and now will have a shot to help add depth to the Thunder’s front-court.
