The Beavers are still looking for their first win of the season, and today against Cal Poly they’ll have to try for it without some of their best players. Reports have come out that several of the Beavers’ stars will miss the game.
Among them is the face of the offense; after being limited and limping in the second half of the loss to Hawaii, Jermar Jefferson is reported to be out for today’s game. Without Jefferson, Artavis Pierce will get the lion’s share of the carries, and B.J. Baylor will back him up.
Wide Receiver Tyjon Lindsey is also out, joining Trevon Bradford who has missed the first three games this season. Center Lineman Nathan Eldridge was injured at Hawaii and will not play. Guard Gus Lavaka is suspended for the first half of the game after his altercation in Hawaii, giving the Beavers some severe weaknesses in their offensive line.
Defensive Tackle Jordan Whittley will also miss today’s game with a knee injury. Whittley and the D-Line were already expected to have a tough job ahead of them trying to coral the Mustangs triple option, and without Whittley there to open up gaps for the pass rushers, adjustments will have to be made.
Those adjustments will not include Outside Linebacker Matthew Tago, who is also out. With Addison Gumbs out for the season after suffering an ACL tear, the Beavers OLBs are severely shorthanded. In the secondary, safety Jeffrey Manning Jr. is also not available. Jalen Moore, projected as the Beavers starting safety before the season began, will finally be able to play after missing the first two games.
Should be a fun game folks.
