- With only a handful of days until Oregon State football officially kicks off their season, it’s time to take a first look at what the Beavers week one opponent in Oklahoma State will be bringing to Corvallis. Over at Cowboys Ride For Free, SB Nation’s Oklahoma State site, you can get a preview of the burning questions that will fill the Cowboys’ season or take a deep look at their recently released depth chart. Also, in this piece, you can see how the other OSU (the Big 12 one) is projected as heavy favorites to our OSU (the good guys).
- The old adage says “if you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks”, but Oklahoma State head coach (and heartland hair icon) Mike Gundy believes that he’ll do just fine when the Cowboys roll out both Spencer Sanders and Dru Brown at quarterback against the Beavers, refusing to name one set starter. Sanders, a much-hyped freshman was expected to be the heir apparent to departed gunslinger Taylor Cornelius, but Hawaii graduate transfer Dru Brown has since thrown a wrench into that plan.
- No, he couldn’t outrun some speedy Indianapolis Colts defensive backs, but former Oregon State running back Ryan Nall did break a huge 69-yard run in the Chicago Bears’ 27-17 win on Saturday night, as he tries to secure his spot on the team’s roster. He’ll have some fierce competition to go up against for one of the final spost in the backfield, as just a week ago, the team signed rookie tailback Josh Caldwell after a strong preseason showing.
- The Oregon State women’s soccer squad showed that their crushing exhibition victory of British Columbia was no fluke, as they started their 2019 regular season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Portland State. It was the first official win for head coach Matt Kagan, who’s side tallied all three of their goals in the first 22 minutes of the contest. The Beavers retake the field again on Friday, when they host Villanova.
- And finally, in news you never knew you needed to know, head coach Gary Payton’s 3 Headed Monsters side was knocked out of the BIG3 playoffs by Triplets on Sunday, thanks to a huge performance and clutch shooting from BIG3 MVP Joe Johnson. The BIG3 final is now set for September 1st between the Killer 3’s and Triplets, in a game that will feature many NBA Alumni including Johnson, Al Jefferson, Stephen Jackson and more.
