With the announcement this morning the Walnut Creek, California-native becomes the highest rated member of the Beavs 2020 class according to 247 Sports. Newell, a consensus 3-star athlete could end up as a 4 star before the season is done. In committing to Jonathan Smith and the Beavers, Newell passed up a handful of other power 5 offers including 6 other Pac-12 Schools (Oregon, SC, ASU, Arizona, Utah and Colorado). Newell is considered by most to be a power running back but does have a good amount of speed for someone his size (6-3 215 lbs). One of the more productive players on the west coast, Newell racked up 2,166 yards and 32 touchdowns as a junior last season.
