Oregon State Football: Most Valuable Player Countdown - #39 Champ Flemings

Small and versatile, Champ Flemings is an explosive piece on the Beavers depth chart.

We continue our most valuable players list at #39, now just 41 days away from the Beavers season opener against Oklahoma State at Reser. With fall camp right around the corner, it’s starting to feel like football season.

#39 Champ Flemings - Wide Receiver

Small of stature but slippery in motion, don’t let the 5’ 5”, 140-pound frame of wide receiver/returner Champ Flemings fool you. The Pasadena, California native and graduate of Cathedral High School could be one of the Beavers “secret weapons” in 2019, after seeing at least a brief spell of action in all twelve games last season.

For those who can’t pinpoint the name Champ Flemings in their Beavers depth chart, you may remember Champ as one of the better pieces of the Oregon State 2017 recruiting haul (who then went by the name Arex). Now known as Champ, he red-shirted his first year on campus and then got into the mix at different points last season, mostly invovlved with the program’s special teams. He’ll likely take on even a bigger role in the return game for both kick-offs and punts in 2019, as well as becoming a switch-up slot option, who can also play out of the backfield.

In 2018, Flemings returned 29 kickoffs for a total of 608 yards, including a 57-yard stunner against Washington State and 54-yarder in the Civil War.

Projected Statistics

14 Catches for 122 yards. 8 Carries for 45 yards. 35 KO Returns for 755 yards and 1 TD.
