- Oregon State women’s basketball guard Jasmine Simmons claimed a gold medal earlier this week, when her Australian squad nicknamed the “Emerging Opals” won all six games at the World University Games in Napoli, Italy. A native of Mildura, Australia, the rising sophomore is hoping to find a bigger role in the Beavers squad next season.
- If you want to be captivated by a unique read than check out Softball America’s piece on incoming Oregon State softball freshman Xiao Gin, who was forced to take quite an unlikely route to ending up in Corvallis. I won’t spoil it for you, just click the link.
- The 2019 NBA Summer League has officially hit the tournament (aka playoffs) stage and Stephen Thompson Jr. and the Dallas Mavericks have earned a #6 seed, meaning they’ll play tonight (Saturday, July 13th) against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7:30 PM PT on ESPN2. According to our SB Nation friends Mavs Moneyball, there’s some strong belief that Dallas’ summer squad may be a favorite to take home all the marbles, despite Thompson Jr. not seeing any regular playing time for the team.
- It’s time for some Gekko Files. The cool fellas over at UW Dawg Pound do their usual look at all of the teams from around the Pac-12 and their preview of the expectations surrounding Oregon State’s 2019 football team is packed with some favorable opinions and some interesting surprises. Although, how can you really argue with anyone calling Oregon State the “Oklahoma of the Pac-12”?.
- And finally, we head to the great white north to check in on Oregon State football alumni Dylan Wynn, who for the second straight week has claimed the best celebration in the CFL (Canadian Football League). Wynn, who has become a play-making defensive lineman for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, has some interesting moves that somehow won with a whopping 63% of the votes. Yay, Canada!
