We’re now just 43 days out from the start of college football, and 50 days away from the Beavers taking on the Fightin’ Gundys of the lesser OSU. Today we’re continuing our countdown of the 50 most important players to the team this season. Here’s #48.

#48 Jaydon Grant - Cornerback

Oregon State’s defense statistically almost has to improve after the disaster of 2018. A lot of focus has been placed on the defensive line, especially with all the transfers coming into the program, but there are also a lot of questions about the secondary. Oregon State produced very few turnovers last season, and if the defense is going to improve, we’re going to have to see the defensive backs start picking off some balls.

Jaydon Grant has had an eventful offseason. The former walk-on was placed on scholarship, made great strides and seemed to be competing for some serious playing time. But then he suffered a scary injury after crashing into a fence during practice and leaving via ambulance. Grant seems to be okay and is on track to be ready for the regular season.

Oregon State’s secondary has suffered a bunch of injuries the last few years and Grant was forced into action. He performed well and picked up 19 tackles and 2 pass break-ups his first two seasons on the field with OSU. Look for Grant to take a leap as a redshirt junior. He’ll have to compete for playing time with Shawn Wilson, Isaiah Dunn and bunch of other people; but expect Grant to see plenty of playing time in 2019.

Projected Stats:

24 tackles... 5 PBUs... 1 Interception
