After not hearing his name called in this week’s NBA Draft, Stephen Thompson Jr.’s future was up in the air. His plans finally settled on Saturday, when the Dallas Mavericks invited him to join their Summer League team.
Thompson will get a shot to prove he deserves a spot on an NBA roster on July 5th when the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League kicks off. All thirty NBA teams will be participating, alongside international squads representing China and Croatia. The Mavericks will take on the Brooklyn Nets on the 5th, with the game being carried by NBA TV.
Thompson Jr. finished his senior season as the Beavers all time leading three point shooter, and their all time fourth best scorer. He’ll hope to follow in the footsteps of Drew Eubanks, another recent Oregon State grad who parlayed a shot in the Summer League into a full time. Eubanks joined the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team, and eventually signed a two way deal with San Antonion and the Austin Spurs, San Antonio’s G-League affiliate.
