Sunday Poll: Would Pat Casey Coming Back To Coach Oregon State Baseball Be The Right Move?

The Beavers former head coach has left the door open for a possible return.

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Mississippi State vs Oregon State Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

By now, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard the story.

Interim head coach Pat Bailey was basically a caretaker manager/head coach for the 2019 season, as former head coach Pat Casey decided to semi-retire after claiming last year’s College World Series title. However, all along the way, Casey has left the idea of a potential return to the program open, as noted frequently by many national and local sportswriters.

Obviously, Casey’s resume speaks for itself. The sixty-year old manager claimed National Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2018 and has amassed an all-time 900–458–6 record at the school. He essentially built the school’s program up from a mediocre Pac-10 team to one of the best and most consistent squads in the country. Yet, even Casey coming back wouldn’t keep catcher Adley Rutschman on campus, as the talented slugger is projected to be the top pick in Monday’s MLB Draft.

When we ask if Casey returning to coach Oregon State Baseball is the right move, we mean is it truly what’s best for next year’s team and the status of the program as a whole. After a year away, it’s clear that Casey is undecided about his intention to remain a coach long-term and while Bailey’s debut season ended early by the team’s standards this weekend, the Beavers were hampered by unfortunate injuries all-season long.

So we ask you all out there in Beaver Nation, would Pat Casey coming back to coach the Beavers be the right move for the program?
